Since the American Studio Glass movement erupted in the 1960s, artists have amazed viewers with the strength and fragility of the material, their expertise in manipulating it, and the diversity of innovative and contemporary ideas they tackle using glass as their main medium. Three States of Glass brings together glass artworks from Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia that highlight contemporary concepts and techniques explored by glass artists today, as well as the amazing talent of artists in our region.

Three States of Glass is juried by Rachel Delphia. Rachel Delphia joined Carnegie Museum of Art’s Decorative Arts and Design Department in 2005. Since 2013, she has served as The Alan G. and Jane A. Lehman Curator and head of department. A specialist in in modern and contemporary design and craft, Delphia has worked extensively with the museum’s collections of European and American objects from ca. 1750–present. In 2019 she co-organized A Pittsburgh Anthology, an interdisciplinary, collections-based exploration of creative life in Pittsburgh. She is currently working on Extraordinary Ordinary Things, which will reimagine the decorative arts and design galleries. Her previous projects include Silver to Steel: the Modern Designs of Peter Muller-Munk (2015) and Sebastian Errazuriz: Look Again (2014). Rachel received a BFA in Industrial Design and MA in English from Carnegie Mellon University and MA in American Material Culture from the Winterthur Program at the University of Delaware.
