Sweetwater Center for the Arts
How we got our start
Sweetwater Center for the Arts was established in 1975 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching our community through accessible, high-quality arts experiences for all ages. Fifty years later, Sweetwater continues to bring people together through hundreds of classes, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, and community programs spanning visual, literary, music, and culinary arts.
We are also proud to host cultural events such as the Mavuno Festival, celebrating Black art, artists, and culture in our community, and Sweet Jazz, an outdoor summer concert series celebrating the sounds of local jazz musicians. Through outreach programs like SweetRide, we continue bringing the arts beyond our walls and connecting with communities throughout the region.
As we look toward the next 50 years, we are building on our history while creating new opportunities for artists, students, and our community. With exciting plans for our historic home and the future of Sweetwater, we are ready for what comes next.
