“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up.” – Pablo Picasso.
Join us as we host “Every Child is an Artist”, an exhibition featuring the works inspired by renowned artist Pablo Picasso, created by our St. James after-school program students and Center for Hope outreach program students. This show will be on display in Sweetwater’s Gallery from April 4th through May 13th, 2022. The students participating range in ages 6-13. Every Child is An Artist is a multimedia exhibition created with the help of our outreach education instructors Rachel Washburn and Colleen Sherts. The exhibition will feature interactive elements in the gallery space which will encourage children to create and play through the lens and thought process of Picasso.
Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and theatre designer, largely associated for pioneering the Cubism art style and collaging. Picasso is famous for his Cubist works which emphasize shape, color, and contrast. He is also recognized for his “blue period” which he produced works featuring monochromatic color schemes with shades of blue. Through studying the works of Picasso, students were able to create their own works by implementing these art elements and principles utilized by this famous artist.
An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday April 8th, 2022 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
This exhibition and outreach programming was made possible thanks to the support from the Child Health Association of Sewickley.
