Art classes
Summer registration is open. Sweetwater Center for the Arts offers weekly camps through Aug. 20 for ages 4-16 in a variety of mediums, including ceramics, drawing, painting, mixed media, performing arts and culinary! Sweetwater also offers pre-care beginning at 8 a.m. and after-care until 5 p.m. and scholarships to students demonstrating need. In addition to summer camps, Sweetwater offers ongoing classes and workshops for youth and adults of all skill levels and experience, as well as private lessons with professional teaching artists.

Sweetwater’s Summer Sweet Jazz Music Series
Sweetwater Center for the Arts’ annual Sweet Jazz Music Series is moving to the spring so live jazz can be enjoyed in the warm outdoors. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy amazing talent Friday nights through June. Each night will have a different food truck.

June 18: Jessica Lee & Mark Strickland Jazz Duo
Tickets cost $25 for adults $15 for children 16 and under.
Physical tickets are not issued — once purchased, your name will be on a list at the door on performance night. The address with directions will be emailed the week of the concert — the location is in Bell Acres Borough in Sewickley.

National Get Outdoors Day
In honor of National Get Outdoors Day, Fern Hollow Nature Center is hosting two community events the weekend of June 11-13. All donations made during the weekend will be matched by the Fern Hollow Nature Center board of directors.
On June 11 from 6-9 p.m., Fern Hollow will host a Strolling Supper.
The adults-only (guests must be over 21), ticketed evening event will include an appetizer station, four dinner stations, dessert and an open bar. Guests will enjoy live music and yard games.
Local artist Susannah Klinvex will create a painting live at the event that will be auctioned off at the end of the night. Guests also will have a chance to win other amazing raffle items.
Tickets for the event are limited and are $100 per person for Fern Hollow members or $115 per person for the general public. To purchase tickets, visit fhnc.org.
On June 12 from 5-7 p.m., Fern Hollow will host a Family Celebration, free and open to the public. The afternoon will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Natural Outdoor Classroom, which recently underwent significant renovations.
Bring the kids for an afternoon of outdoor activities, including yard games, face painting, scavenger hunts, guided meadow walks and more. Bring a picnic dinner or purchase your meal at B’s Sip of Summer food truck and desert from Sewickley Confectionery’s ice cream truck.
Because of covid restrictions, attendance will be limited. All events will follow current covid guidelines.

Preschool Jumpstart Program
A mini-preschool program to help children new to preschool ease into a school environment before starting preschool in the fall.
The program, taught by Village Preschool teachers, will foster social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development, as well as support individual developmental milestones that contribute to a strong foundation for future learning in the preschool setting. Class sizes will be limited to between 10 and 12 children. It will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays July 13-29.

Countdown to Kindergarten Summer Program
Countdown to Kindergarten is for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2021
The multidisciplinary group is designed to prepare your child for kindergarten. Each day will offer fun and varied activities to promote language enrichment, fine and gross motor skills, socialization and early academic knowledge. Staffed by Laughlin Children’s Center therapists and clinicians, children will participate in centers to engage with each discipline. It will take place 10 a.m.-noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from July 26-Aug. 6. Cost is $300 per child and class size is limited.
The Village Preschool in-person registration
Registration is currently being accepted for The Village Preschool.
The program for 3-year-olds is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11:30 a.m. Class is limited to 12 children. Children must be 3 by Sept. 1. Registration is $50 and tuition is nine monthly payments of $225.
The program for 4-year-olds is Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m.-12:10 a.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Class is limited to 18 children. Children must be 4 by Sept. 1. Registration is $50 and tuition is nine monthly payments of $400.
Classes are intentionally small to give the school’s qualified, caring, experienced teachers an opportunity to know your child well and leverage Laughlin Children’s Center’s 60+ years of multidisciplinary experience to help your child grow.
