Director of Community Engagement and Education

• Full-time, Exempt
Salary Range: $50,000
Hours: Flexible hours to accommodate work responsibilities; will work nights and weekends

This role develops and implements all aspects of the Center’s community initiatives and education curriculum. The Director builds new relationships and expands current ones with education and community leaders locally and regionally. The Director works closely with the Executive Director and artistic team to create dynamic programs and build a network of community partners for Sweetwater Center for the Arts. This position is public-facing and requires active participation with the community and a passion for networking and building relationships.

Key Responsibilities

● Carries out Sweetwater’s long-term strategic plan and vision to focus on providing the space, tools, education, and resources to help artists in our community and region succeed
● Collaborates with other center Directors and Executive Director on strategic goals, guiding organizational culture, and implementing Board directives
● Engages with the community and actively solicits partnerships
● Leads all community activities
● In conjunction with the Director of Artistic Advancement, develops an annual plan for course curriculum, community engagement, and exhibition collaboration, as well as strategic partner alignment
● Manages the education department within the Center, leading all part-time education coordinators and independent contractors, as well as the development of curriculum
● Leads the Student Art Show and its eco-system of connected public school art teachers
● Develops and implements a robust continuing education program for teachers and students in the region
● Forecasts and manages annual education and community outreach budget
● Works with the Executive Director to research and develop programming for new grant opportunities
● Works with Marketing to ensure a full line of communication for the promotion of the education department and community engagement
● Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

● 5 or more years of experience in a combination of relevant areas: leadership, education, studio art, etc.
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent additional work experience
● Exceptional skills in building and maintaining relationships
● Experience strategizing and implementing long-term projects and initiatives
● Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
● Highly organized, detail-oriented, efficient, with a background in managing projects
● Ability to actively engage in multiple projects at once
● Capable of working a non-traditional schedule to accomplish the goals of the Center
● Ability to work independently with little supervision
● Clearances required:
○ PA Criminal Background Check
○ PA Child Abuse History Clearance
○ FBI Background Check
