Unlike the other works in this exhibition, Fiona’s Butterfly is not for sale.

This painting was created alongside my older daughter, Fiona, over the months I worked on During Naptime. When she wasn’t at school, she was often my little studio assistant and companion throughout the process, and it felt important that she have a place on these walls, too.

While I added a few small details, this is overwhelmingly Fiona’s vision and handiwork. More than anything, I wanted her to experience the joy of making art, to see creativity as a lifelong source of expression, comfort, and curiosity, and to know that art can help us make sense of ourselves and the world around us. I also wanted her to grow up seeing that mothers can and should continue to chase and fulfill their own passions and creative dreams!
