UPCOMING MASTER CLASSES
Instructor: Timothy Horn
Dates: April 25 – 27, 2025
Location: Sweetwater Art Center, Sewickley, PA
This workshop will center on conveying light through value relationships, simplifying these ideas with exercises. It also covers clean color techniques, value patterns for composition, and includes discussions on materials, scene selection, and brushwork. Each day, Timothy Horn will demonstrate painting techniques, offer individual guidance, and host a slideshow presentation to explain key concepts. Most sessions will be indoors with photos as references, though weather permitting, some outdoor painting will be included.
This painting workshop is designed for advanced beginners and intermediate painters, focusing primarily on oil painting. While acrylic and watercolor artists can join, technical support for those materials won’t be available. Participants should already be comfortable with oils and setting up their outdoor easel. Inquisitive Construction: Hand-building with Deb Schwartzkopf
Instructor: Deb Schwartzkopf
Dates: October 24 – 26, 2025
Location: Sweetwater Art Center, Sewickley, PA
All the small details add up into new creations. This 3-day workshop will focus on fostering our attention to nuances, exploring our curiosities, and embracing techniques that will build on what you know of hand-building with clay.
When you hand-build with clay, any shape is possible! Together, we will make our own molds to shape slabs, dart cylinders to add movement and assemble simple parts into expressive shapes. (We will be working off the wheel, however many of these techniques can be applied to thrown cylinders! This workshop is great for throwers and hand-builders alike.)
Deb will lead you through a journey of discovery, with the goal of personal growth in your own work. Spark your ideas as you watch demos, participate in hands-on exercises, and enjoy all the ideas flowing within the group. Discussions about surface will round out this workshop. This workshop is one of discovery and risk more than finished objects. You will bring home ideas and techniques to enliven your studio practice. The days will be balanced with plenty of time for your own work and personal attention. Open to all skill levels.
