SPRING 2017 PRESCHOOL CLASSES
The following classes are designed for children who are ready to explore art on their own. Children uncomfortable without an adult are better suited for an Adult/Child class. Materials fee is included in the tuition.

 

Acting Fundamentals: Improv Theater CH03 Ages 5-8
This class provides young students with a supportive place to jump into the world of acting. Through improvisational theater concepts, Pittsburgh improv instructor and performer Annie Harder will help your child build the confidence, communication skills, and empathy needed to excel in the world of theater, and in life. Whether you have no stage experience or you have your theater future mapped out, this class will provide a space for you to hone your theatrical skills.

The Science of Spring PS01 Ages 4-6
Join us for an artistic and scientific celebration for that special time of year when the world around us awakens! So many wonderful things happen as the ground starts to thaw and insects and animals begin to wake up from their winter slumber. Miss Sally Oberdick will guide your little ones through a spring time art adventure that includes a reading of the children's classic In the Tall, Tall Grass and a creature-making art activity.

Planting Sunshine PS02 Ages 4-6
Spring is the time for flowers and plants to bloom. With some sunshine, April showers, and a beautiful planter that your little one will decorate themselves, we're sure to have a beautiful springtime. Students will learn about spring blossoms, create their very own flower collage, and plant their own seeds in their new planter. Students will read Planting a Garden, and learn to start a garden of their very own!

Zoom! PS03 Ages 4-6
Let's pretend that we are microscopic. Now let's pretend that we are very big! What sorts of adventures could we get in to if we could zoom in very close and very far away? Through various art activities and children's literature, students will use their imagination to learn about perspective and scale by exploring worlds very tiny and worlds very large!

April Showers Silhouettes PS04 Ages 4-6
Explore the creative possibilities and color mixing excitement of drip painting! Using vibrant watercolors and action painting techniques made famous by Jackson Pollock, students will learn how to control the dripping patterns using a straw and paint droppers to make a unique rain shower backdrop. Students will learn how to draw and cut out their own silhouette images to bring a personal touch to their final paintings.

All About Rainbows PS05 Ages 4-6
Ever wonder how a rainbow is created? How many colors make up a rainbow? Join us at the end of the rainbow as students learn about the science of rainbows and celebrate their artistic beauty learning how to create your very own to take home.

Rockets to Space! PS06 Ages 4-6
Let's go where no artist has gone before! Bring your very space adventure to life in this fun and creative futuristic workshop. Students will learn to build their own model rocket ship using recycled materials, metallic elements, and paint. After we blast off into space, you'll get to create your own unique 3-D collage that will be sure to make the future a reality.

Exploring Light PS07 Ages 4-6
Light is a very curious thing, indeed. Believe it or not, light moves in waves like water, and is made of particles, like sand. Without light we could not see anything. Depending on the kind of light, it can also change HOW we see everyday things. For centuries artists have been inspired by the curiosities of light. By learning how to use art to create different moods and environments, students will explore how installation artists use light to create art.

Up, Up and Away! PS08 Ages 4-6
April showers are gone. It's time to fly our hot air balloons! Learning various painting, drawing, and sculptural techniques, students will create several hot air balloon inspired art projects celebrating the colorful whimsy of majestic hot air balloons. Bring your love for artistic adventure and come fly away with us!
