Pet Events: Things to do to help animals and people who love them

Wild animal art camp

Some of the critters from Human Animal Rescue’s wildlife rehabilitation center in Verona will be traveling to Sewickley to strike poses for young artists at the Sweetwater Center for the Arts on July30-Aug. 8, 1-3 p.m.

The Wild Animal Art Summer Camp is for ages 8-12. Each day a different animal will come to class; possibilities include porcupine, owl and opossum as well as kittens from one of the shelters.

Students will learn about each of the animals and then portray them with watercolors, pencils, clay or collage.

The instructor is Cynthia Shaffer, whose experience with animals and nature is evident in her fine art work. She also photographs adoptable animals for the Butler County Humane Society and cares for rehabilitating animals at the HAR Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

Cost of the camp is $160 for Sweetwater members and $190 for non-members. Go to to register or call 412-741-4405.
