Music Lessons

MUSIC
Most music lessons are half-hour, private lessons. See each individual description for details. Please note that Sweetwater does not offer make-up classes or tuition reimbursement for student absenteeism. Sweetwater does not prorate tuition for classes the student cannot attend. The 10% early registration discount does not apply to music lessons. Online registration is not available for music lessons. Please call Sweetwater at 412-741-4405 to schedule lessons.

 

Guitar Ages 6+
This is the perfect class for the student who has never played guitar, used to play, or the student who has never stopped playing. The instructor will adapt to any student or instrument - classical, f-hole, electric, etc: all styles are equal. Basic music fundamentals (such as how to read music and chord formations), jazz, contemporary and classical styles will be covered. Cost of any necessary books is in addition to the tuition fee. Lessons for guitar are half-hour, private lessons. Students must provide instrument.

American Voice and Piano Ages 6+
Jessica Lee, nationally renowned Jazz and Blues singer, teaches breathing techniques, vocal strength and range exercises, repertoire development, and performance methods in American music. Students will learn basic musicianship to assist them with learning music quickly and accurately and to enable them to sing whatever American music styles appeal to them most. Jessica Lee is trained both in classical and Jazz singing and piano‎, and she performs nationally in Jazz clubs and theaters throughout the country - www.jessicaleejazz.com. Cost of any necessary books is in addition to the tuition fee.

Classical Piano Ages 6+
The goal of piano lessons will be to foster a sense of joy, explore creativity and build confidence in a nurturing environment. Lessons will focus on aspects of basic musicianship such as theory, technique, repertoire and musicality. Students should have access to either a piano or a keyboard in order to practice outside of class. Cost of any necessary books is in addition to the tuition fee. Lessons for piano are half-hour, private lessons.

Voice: Classical to Modern Ages 6+
No matter the level or experience, everyone can find joy, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment through singing! Students will find their most sustainable singing as they build a healthy classical technique. Emphasis will be placed on posture, breathing, vowel formation, and performing. We will focus on the classical, musical theatre, and folk genres, but other genres may be explored as well. In addition to practicing technique, students will also explore introductory music theory and develop an understanding of how to practice efficiently. Cost of any necessary books is in addition to the tuition fee. Lessons for piano are half-hour, private lessons. Students must provide instrument.

Violin/Viola Ages 6+
A life long love of music starts with a solid foundation. The goal of Violin and Viola lessons will be to encourage and nurture a healthy relationship with music in students ages 6 and up. In a relaxed and collaborative environment, students will learn to read music fluently, properly hold their instruments and bows, develop an understanding of beginner music theory, rhythm, listening and sight-reading skills and, most importantly, how to practice. Lessons will be based on classical training techniques, but study of alternative musical genres will be encouraged in interested students. Beginner and intermediate private lessons are offered to violin and viola students. Cost of any necessary books is in addition to the tuition fee. Lessons for piano are half-hour, private lessons. Students must provide instrument.

Cello Ages 6+

Beginner Voice Ages 6+
Students ages six and up may enroll in beginner voice lessons, no previous experience required. Focus will be placed on proper posture, correct breathing techniques, solfege/sight-singing, and ear training. Students will eventually add the study of popular songs and introductory music theory to their practice. If a student is studying another instrument as well, focus will be placed on how voice lessons can inform greater understanding of their instrumental development. Multi-instrumentalists will be encouraged to bring their instruments to lessons in order to get comfortable accompanying themselves while singing. Cost of books is in addition to the tuition fee.
